Unit 6 Summative Projects
Due by Monday, November 4th
Option 1: Create a children’s book (for 2nd – 4th grade level students).
Requirements:
· Book is on computer paper or construction paper NOT notebook paper. Book should be a minimum of 5 pages NOT including the title page.
· Writing is neat, legible and in pen or marker.
· A relevant color picture (may be printed or drawn) is located on each page!
· Topics to be covered:
o What is coral? Include the anatomy of a polyp
o What is a coral reef?
o Types of coral reefs
o How fast do reefs grow?
o Where are reefs located?
o Why are reefs important?
o How are reefs threatened?
o What are some of the coral formations (types) found in a reef?
o What are some of the animals and plants you would find on a reef?
o What are some of the symbiotic relationships found on a reef?
Option 2: Build a Reef
Requirements:
· Student will provide his/her own supplies
· Reef must be at least the size of a shoe box and 3D
· Reef should be accurate (the 3 parts of a reef are obvious)
· Must accurately depict at least 4 different types of corals
· Must include at least 5 animals and 2 plants that would be found on a reef
· A note card explaining what type of reef you made and where it would be found.
